{one poem, read two ways}

Strikethrough

She walks clumsily gracefully
along the sidewalk, her scuffed sneakers shiny heels
carrying her towards home.
She is a poster image of distraction and stress calm and elegance.
People walking by glance at her with disgust jealousy,
but she is oblivious stoic enough to continue walking,
paying no mind to judgmental envious strangers.
She has told herself over and over; beauty isn’t is everything,
and she completely believes that now.
She is real, and imperfect and amazing.
She is polished perfectly to expectations.
She shines, regardless of her failures.

But she fades, despite her efforts to impress.
