{a poem}

Gazelles with Backpacks
The other day I stood at the bus stop and watched as
thirty gazelles ran and leapt and scattered
in their desperate attempt to be on an arriving train.

The way they ran,
            in a massive, desperate group…

No longer a collection of frantic students,
but a herd
a flock
a colony.

Just animals taking a chance on

the migrations of the others.
